Damn! 10-Months. How?
So, my baby... yes baby, he will be that until he is a year old, even if he does grow taller than me... He is so awesome. I mean so freaking awesome I cannot stand it. In the past month he has really become this little person with SO much personality! He stands, he mumbles, he squeals and talks to animals. He plays by himself, and LOVES babies and kids too. He laughs out of no where, and for the most part is all smiles. He is such a happy baby!
We have a strict routine we follow everyday that I attribute to his easy character and happiness. He sleeps from 8pm-12am then 5-6am every night. He eats breakfast at 8:30, Lunch at 12, and dinner at 6:30 and nurses before his naps. He takes two naps everyday,10am lasting anywhere from 45-minutes to 2-hours, then again at 3:30 from 45-minutes to an hour. The afternoon nap is the only time I have trouble getting him to sleep. But usually a bounce on the bed gets him right out.
Yes, I do know by now he should be able to get himself to sleep, and that he is not techinacally sleeping through the night. But, I am still not ready for sleep training. I can't do it. Sometimes I try, but I can't do it! As soon as he gets to screaming like Freddie Krueger has come for him, I go running. FTD is usually the first one to the door, he can't take the crying at all. As a family, we all are ok with our current routine.
He stands all by himself, but he has to first pull up to standing with the aid of something. He still has not taken the first step, but from standing will lean forward and then land on his knees and hands, or just fall back on his diaper padded bottom. However, when we go to set him down, he straightens out his legs to walk a few steps first with us holding him. Maybe this month... But I learned my lesson with crawling, I am not going to wish for any more unknowns with this brick shit house of a baby.
Speaking of brick house...
Ollie does not miss a meal! He will try anything once, which is awesome. However, he will smack what he doesn't like right out of your hand, off the spoon or his tray. Seriously, he doesn't mess around! He feeds the cat by throwing food down to his drooling waiting chops. It's wrong. I am sure Ollie and the cat can talk to each other. Ollie throws him eggs, chicken and turkey and sometimes a potato, but for the most part, only what the cat will eat. All the other stuff he doesn't like he just trows and laughs. Oliver will also happily eat a pint of strawberries or blueberries in a sitting. Avocado and sweet potato are his favorite veggies. He is not interested in fish. I have also recently learned he wants food with flavor. Plain chicken sucks, but not spicy BBQ is the best. Veggies with lemon pepper go fast.
HE is just plain awesome!
ME...
I am... still fighting the ass, thighs and pooch that came with him. I am still nursing, teeth and all. OK, honestly... I am sick of the massive boobs and constipation that come with nursing. I also hate that I am still taking prenatal vitamins. My back hurts because my ab muscles are still worthless, and lifting and holding Ollie's 26 pounds in gnarly! I miss having long fingernails, but we all know I am not going to scratch my little guy again. But when I think of the big picture, I don't care. I have the rest of my life to get myself back together... and well I may just be popping another one out sooner than later, (NO! I AM NOT KNOCKED UP!) so I am not going to stress out about fixing all of the above until number two is safely on his way to cow's milk...
I have come to the realization that my old ideas of body and being are just not logical for me right now. I am still a relatively new mother, I need to enjoy this time as much as possible, without beating the piss out of myself for having weak abs and a fat ass. Besides, I am only interested in impressing my son right now, and all that takes is a ball and some blueberries!
Here are a few of my favorite recent pictures of him.

He lets me know when he is hungry. He crawls to his seat and bangs on it until I put him in it. SO CUTE! |

His first baby Mohawk! And look at those teeth! Three on the bottom, 2 up top. |

Posing with his Mohawk. He's bad ass in his Darth Vader Jammies. |

Look at those HANDS! He can wrap his hand around a Hotwheel. |

He's so sweet. All the discomfort and inconvenience doesn't matter when you look at that beautiful face.
So true! I'd do it all over again... TWICE for him!
April, you're not lying when you call him a brick house! I'm so jealous that you have a good eater! My nearly 20-month old still only weighs 23 pounds. He's busy as a bee...teething like an M-F'er and pretty much hates food in general. SO FRUSTRATING! Thank your lucky stars in that department! I spend the better part of the evening picking up dinner that he tosses on the floor. Also, don't be surprised when the two naps morph into one long afternoon nap. I ADORE those on weekends ;) P.S. Ollie is SO freaking cute!
He's so big! And freakin' handsome as hell. Chase is at the point too where plain food or baby food is just not working- he LOVES salmon, soups, bread- anything I eat pretty much is like a special treat. No longer can I share my plate, because he'll eat it all- and I'm left hungry :/
They are little men now- hardly babies!
26 lbs!!!?? Wow, get yourself a good chiropractor and masseuse, I feel for you! My 14 month old just hit 23 lbs and I feel like I'm 80 years old when I carry him. Glad Ollie is a good eater, I'm lucky if I can get B to eat one meal a day right now.
OMG He is sooo cute! and so big!! Love it!!!
Haven't tried the CIO yet either. Glad I'm not the only softie! :) William's sleep is still awful. Sometimes he is awake for 2 hrs at night, just lying in bed with me poking me in the face! :) And he wakes anywhere from 5-a million times each night. Yet surprisingly, he does put himself to sleep. With us in the room, but not touching or rocking him. Progress. :)
I love how Ollie goes to his chair when he is hungry! That's hillarious!

I am really thankful he will pick up anythign I put down in front of him... except when it's not food! I am looking forward to the long afternoon nap, I can imagine I will get things done. Or if nothing else catch up on some sleep!
I am going to have to try Salmon. And just last night Ollie ate my steak and stuffed mushrooms. He's only a baby, what am I going to do when he is a toddler!
And don't remind me... they are totally little men...
I recently had a mother of 14 month old say the same thing. She said he was still teething and only wanted to nurse. I bet that is really scary and frustrating...
I need a massage so bad...
CIO is just not for us. Ollie always wakes up crying at least once an hour after I put him to sleep for the night, we cannot figure it out! Last night he woke at 10:30, 1:30 and 5:30... I still refuse CIO.
Yes, Ollie lets us know pretty much when he needs anything, and meals are no exception!
Last night Will was up ever 45 minutes until 11:30 when my husband brought him into the spare room. He then remained awake until 1. And then was farting away at 5, and awake at 6. :(
It's worse now that he has figured out how to sit up from being on his belly. He will be sleeping but will try to sit up, and then he will freak out!
Ollie did the same thing. Then from sitting he pulls up to standing. Why won't these babies sleep??!!!
He's so cute!! You're quite right that you have the rest of your life to get back together but these first few years are just too precious! Btw, I'm firm about calling my 8 year old and my 5 year old, 'baby'! They'll be my babies for the rest of their lives....I can't wait to embarrass them in front of their partners!! :P
He's absolutely adorable!! That's awesome that he's so into trying new foods, I can only hope my little one will do that. We are just now introducing solids and so far he's been pretty excited to eat, really hoping it sticks.
You are doing awesome! Still breast feeding, massive points for you!!! We had to start supplementing bc little one was not gaining weight.
You have the right attitude when it comes to the body issues, it's aggravating that we don't just bounce back right away but looking into a smiling happy kid makes it all ok.
