Everyday I receive a daily bible devotional, via an app on my iPhone, that constantly reminds me that life is so much more than the little corner of the world that I live in, and that life is pretty awesome if you have faith. One devotional gave me such a reality check, I thought I would share it with you:
FIX YOUR THOUGHTS...
“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” - Philippians
The devotional goes on to say:
“When you think positive thoughts in your mind, the side effect is that you see the glass half full. It might sound simple but that attitude can make all the difference in your approach to people, situations and environments. The most difficult part is keeping this top of mind…”
This could not have come at a better time. My thoughts desperately need a fix! I worry all of the time about things I have no control over. I second guess myself, my writing and my parenting on a daily basis. This devotional has helped me to realize it’s all in my head. My outlook and attitudes are all in my head.
I do believe in the power of positive thinking. I also believe that ANYONE can achieve ANYTHING if they put their mind to it. I have lost sight of this due to the constant demands of my daily life. I put myself and my needs last. I'm too busy.... Excuses… excuses…
Thanks to this devotional, I have been trying my best to think positive thoughts. I’m allowing myself to dream big, and believe those dreams can and will come true, if I put my mind to it. I'm making it my goal to spend this week maintaining a positive, healthy, happy and self-loving outlook. I really hope you will join me.
Please, if nothing else, don't allow yourself to dwell on one negative thought for the rest of the day.
Please, if nothing else, don't allow yourself to dwell on one negative thought for the rest of the day.
Fix your thoughts... it makes a world of difference.

When I read those verses, I think about our call to fix our eyes on things unseen (2 Cor. 4:18), which are eternal. Then the things of this world are put into perspective as temporary. To me, it means focusing on Jesus and not on myself. When I start my day communing with Him, He is on my mind and it helps me have more grace and patience and love to deal with everyone else. It also allows me to cast my cares on Him and exchange my anxieties for His peace.
I love when you go non-secular and share some of your faith on here! I don't think it alienates, since you're not forcing anyone else to believe. However, since it is a critical part of who you are, your sharing about it helps your readers to know more of what you're about. Keep talking 'bout Him, sister! :)
Nice logic! And a very valid point when it comes to parenting - it's so easy to focus on what we're doing wrong and the 'what ifs' that sometimes we forget all the good things we do, and all the good things that come with being a parent.
So, I'm gonna give this a shot - gonna have to figure out a way to deconnect the sarcasm button though... lol
Ah yes... The good ol' sarcasm button... Lol. It may sound silly but every time my mind drifts to anxiety island, I say "no! Positive thoughts only!" silly or not it's really nice to stay focused on happy thoughts only.
Thanks Mrs L! I will certainly add more of my and my faith. Thanks for your comment.
Wish I read this last week! Thanks for sharing it- a reminder (or slap on the head) is what I need!
and this is why you're Lady A to me....Lady AWESOME!!!! =)
Such a great post! I definitely try to do this on the day to day, but sometimes forget. Thanks for the reminder. And I agree with Mrs. L! If you want to share your faith you should! It helps us know who you are better which makes us love you even more of course. :)
Technically, even when the glass is empty of liquid, it is full of air!! :P
Okay okay! Just my inane way of making light of every situation!! :D
