Here are some Important Window safety facts!

  • Each year an average of eight children under the age of 5 are killed by falling from windows, while approximately 3300 children under the age of 5 are treated in hospitals for window fall injuries.  On average, the CPSC estimates that 34%, that’s one of every THREE children require hospitalization after falling from a window.  Between 2002 and 2004, 25 children died from window falls, according to the CPSC.
  • The CPSC recommends the following safety tips for window safety:
·   Use window guards or window stops
·   For windows on the 6th floor or below, install window guards that adults AND older children can open easily in case of fire
·   Never depend on screens to keep children from falling out of windows
·   Whenever possible, open windows from the top, not the bottom
·   Keep furniture away from windows to discourage children from climbing near windows
·   Some jurisdictions require landlords to install guards.  Check local regulations.

  • KidCo has two products that fall in line with the CPSC recommendations:  The Mesh Window Guard and the Window Stop, both ASTM certified.
Heya everyone...FTD here - Just wanted to add a few observations about the Kidco window guard.  Firstly, I reckon that it's an awesome product.  The mesh itself is strong and with summer coming along, I can see this being a really wonderful addition to the nursery.

The install is relatively easy too - Follow the instructions, line everything up, pop the bits together, screw the mounts in and let your kid at it!  The Kidco mesh window guard really does offer peace of mind when you leave the room.

So, if you're terrified of bubs becoming the next 'Indiana Jones' and exploring the roof-top cause Aunty Flo left the stupid window open, then enter the draw for one of these bad-boys or just pick one up from any of the major retailers.

FTD INSTALL DIFFICULTY = 3/10

Awesome product. Thankfully we don't have this issue, yet. But, our family was just talking about this very thing. Apparently Eric Clapton lost a child to a window-fall.
