Great Gifts For Kids to Give to Their Friends

When you have a child in school, you’ll often find an invitation to a birthday party. With many children in a class, of all different genders and backgrounds, it may seem hard to help your child find a gift that will make them happy, especially since you don’t know the child personally. While letting your child roam free amongst the store aisles to pick out a gift may seem tempting, your credit card and the store employees most likely won’t appreciate that.

So what are some cool and fun gifts that you can purchase for your child’s classmate? What you purchase is going to be dictated first by the age group of your child, and the amount that you’re willing to spend. When you have a child in elementary school, one unisex option that is affordable and a ton of fun is a set of Legos or K’nex. Simple board games like Battleship, Uno or even a nice chessboard can be a fun gift, and something that most children will enjoy. If you know that the classmate has multiple siblings, opt for games that can be multiplayer so they can play along as well.

Because of the digital age we live in, a popular choice may be the newest video game on the market for the many gaming systems out there, but make sure that a family member of the child isn’t planning to purchase the video game first. If you want a more unique gift that can be entertaining and affordable for your child’s classmate, then consider purchasing any of the snow cone machines at a toy store or a Target or Wal-Mart location near you. They can provide a form of entertainment for a child, and can serve as a family activity, all while making delicious snow cones that the child can enjoy.

If you feel really nervous about picking a specific gift for your child’s classmate because you don’t have much information about the child, then a popular option is to purchase a gift card. If you know of a particular store that they wear clothing or buy toys from, then getting a specific store gift card for an amount you feel comfortable with is a good idea. Otherwise, buying a Visa gift card gives the child and their parent’s free reign over what they decide to spend the money on, which is the safest possible option.

  1. Ahhhhh- so very true. We are big on giving board games and such too- with parents throwing parties at places from Chuck E Cheese to ice skating to aerial trapeze class parties (seriously), it's hard to imagine what these kids may enjoy- especially when it comes in the form of a pile of presents, lots of other kids, and lots and lots of sugar- they likely will zoom past all the gifts, squealing with delight in one second, and off to the next gift in the next, then race back to playing anyway...

Good luck! The school years are tons of fun ;)
